The World Trick Shot Championships is a worldwide championship of trick shot pool. The first edition of the competition took place in 1991 on snooker table. Matchroom Sport was responsible for organizing the event. The competition was organized by Matchroom Sports. The competition was held at Celtic Manor in 2005.
In the 1970s, many professional billiards gamers began performing trick shots. These players were given prizes, such as the World Championship of Artistic Pool or the International Challenge Cup. Trick shot is a pool game that has been sanctioned by The World Pool-Billiard Assocation. In addition to participating in tournaments and teaching others, trick shot artists can also be found instructing the sport.
Mike Massey is a well-known trick shooter. He has been doing tricks since the 1970s. He has played many games with sports celebrities, such as Jason Gedrick and Paul Sorvino. Massey has been an important figure in the sport both as an instructor, and as a fundraiser. Massey's performances at the Waste Management Pheonix Open, and at the Volvo PGA at Wentworth have earned him a lot of attention.
Mike Massey has been instructing professionals in the sport such as Scott Baiin and Dean Cain. He has competed in several international professional competitions. In 2002, he was part of Team U.S.A. which won the trick shot championship world title. The team also performed at HSBC Championships Abu Dhabi, and at Commercial Bank Qatar Masters.
Jim Sommer, another great trick-shot artist. He has played in many international Trick-shot turnering events and has also traveled to the United States to compete in the US Nationals. He is the US Nationals Artistic Pool Champion.
The World Trick Shot Artists Association is an international organization that brings together trick shot artists from around the globe. Paul Gerni, world champion trick shot artist, is the founder of the association. The WTSAA's book includes 160 tricks. Some of these tricks include the machine gun shot, the "kick" shot, and the quick-fire shot. The "pro" shot and "extreme cut shots are just a few of the trick shots.
Tim "The Dragon", Chin (2022 US Nationals Artistic Pool Champion), won the prestigious title defeating Jason Lynch (The Michigan Kid) in the finals. Both Lynch as well as Chin are WPA World Ranked. However, Chin has the advantage of being a seasoned professional, while Lynch is still a student at Ohio State.
On October 9-10, Trick Shot Magic will host its next event. This competition will feature eight international stars of the sport. They will compete to win a purse of $40,000. Each player can choose from six to ten shots. Each player will get three chances at completing the shot once they have chosen their favorites. All players who take a shot that is successful will be awarded a point.
