When it comes to pool cues, there are many varieties to choose from. There are English and American pool cues, as well as a snooker and jump cue. These types all have their own unique characteristics. Knowing more about these types will help you make the right decision.

American pool cues

There are many differences between American pool cues, and English cues. American cues are usually split in their middle, while English cues split at the 3/4-point. The 3/4 joint is becoming more popular in English pool and snooker games. This cue style allows the player to balance their weight more backwards than with a traditional one. You should experiment with different types of cues to decide which one you like the best.

English pool cues

An English pool cuff is best for intermediate and beginner players. These cues can be as thin as other styles, reaching a maximum of eight to nine millimeters at the tip. These cues often include a brass ferrule for strength and durability. They are also made out of ashwood which has a unique texture.

Snooker cues

You can make snooker cues from many different woods. Some are made of Ash while others are made from maple. They can have a tip of seven to eleven micrometers. The overall length is sixteen to eighteen inch. Most snooker blades are 3/4th joined and weigh sixteen to nineteen ounces. A ferrule can be used to make snooker cues from steel, titanium, and fiber.

Jump cues

Jump cues are a pool cue that has a hard tip. This helps to transfer more power to your cue ball. There are many different types of jump cues, and the best ones will help you improve your jump shots. But before you decide to buy a jump-cue, be sure to weigh its pros and con's.

Squirt

A squirt results when the cueball strikes off-center. This creates a deflection which causes the ball travel in a different direction. The deflection is caused by physics. It can also be caused from a number of factors. A hit that is off-center will result in the tip of the cueball hitting an angle surface. Therefore, the greater deflection the hit is.

Tip size

You can adjust the size of the tip of an English pool cue depending on what game you are playing. The average cue tip measurement is approximately 9.5mm. American pool cues have a larger tip than English ones, making striking the cueball very simple. These cues are however difficult to aim so they are not the best choice in Snooker.

English cues are also flexibler than American counterparts, so they are less likely be warped.
