The US Open 9 Ball Championship, one of nine ball pool's most coveted titles, is held every year. It is held every year and attracts more than 1,000 spectators. 64 players will each receive $148,000 in total prize money. Additional fees of $500 will be collected for entry to the competition.

Many notable names have been crowned US Open 9 Ball Champion. Earl Strickland and Steve Mizerak have each won the title. Mike Sigel also took home the title. However, the player who has been the most successful at pocket billiards is Efren "The Magician" Reyes. He has won a U.S. Open Championship and a World Championship.

Luther Lassiter, who was killed in October 1988, was an iconic road player who won six of the world's nine ball championships. He was a great player and had a long career. In the end Lassiter would have been more successful if there were more nine-ball tournaments.
