World Ranking Snooker

snookers

The official snooker ranking system ranks players based upon their recent performance. The World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association administers it. This listing will be updated for each ranking series. To be eligible for the World Snooker Tour, players must hold a current ranking in snooker. Seeding is determined by players' performance in particular tournaments.

For the first two years, the rankings of snooker were based upon the results of three World Championships: The World Open, UK Championship, or the Professional Players Tournament. Each event's winner was awarded one seed and each of the runner-ups two. From 1976 to 1982, the World Championship was the only ranking competition. In 1982, the International Open was the fourth ranking tournament. More tournaments were created as the competition grew.

The World Championship knockout format was also reintroduced during this period. This is considered to be the beginning of the modern era of snooker. Today, the majority of records are based in 1969. The current total number of titles on the snooker ranking list is 31.
