The American Poolplayers Association is responsible for overseeing amateur pool competitions across the United States. This organization organizes tournaments and leagues for nine- and eight-ball competitions. It follows a standard set rules. The APA also has a handicapped champion in wheel chairs. These tournaments are a great way to meet other pool players and compete against the best.

Standard Rules for APA

The APA Standard Rules are a set of guidelines for pool tournaments that provide a wealth of information for players. These include an Official Team Manual as well as a Rule Booklet. These rules contain information on how to keep score as well as handicap information. These rules can also be downloaded to many devices. There are many online videos that can help you with the game.

APA nine-ball differs from Texas Express rules 9-ball in several ways. First, balls one through eight count as one point while the nine ball counts as two points. Pockets made during the break are also counted as two points. Rules stipulate that object balls are treated as dead balls. The rack is finished and the player with most points wins.

The handicapping system by APA

The APA's pool championship handicapping system is based upon a formula that attempts balance skill levels. To win a game, a player that plays 6 balls must hit 46 balls. A player who plays 9 balls must hit 19 balls. This formula is based on win/loss statistics and has been proved to be quite accurate.

Unlike national pool leagues, the NAPA handicapping system assigns a skill level to individual matches, rather than a theoretical cap. The highest-skill players of 8-ball or nine-ball are rated 115, 149, respectively. However, the vast majority of players are in the 30s to 70s.

APA Sportsmanship Award

World Pool Championships recognizes pool tournament winners who have received the APA Sportsmanship Award. Nominations are required to receive the award. To be considered for the award, you must be a pool player. APA staff will make the nominations. The tournament honors its winners. Their names will be published in its program.

An APA tournament host cannot switch leagues. The franchisee doesn't have the authority. The League Operator declined to establish an in-house league for the host site. The APA then contacted another local competitive pool league and arranged an in-house division.
