Ralph Greenleaf, an avid billiards player, started only a few short years ago. He has already participated in several cushion billiards events and placed in top 10 at the Illinois national 3-cushion-billiards tournament last month. He has been regularly visiting the Twin Cities billiards club each month.
Two of the most highly ranked billiards players in Vietnam are Tran Quyet Chien and Nguyen Quyet Nguyen. Both of them are ranked among the top 10 in the world. Both players are currently in the top eight with Tran Qyet Chien at number seven. Both players are the tournament's defending champions. Ngo Dinh Nai is ranked no 29. Jeremy Bury from France is ranked number 18.
The next tournament that will be held in Vietnam is the 3-Cushion Carom Billiards Continental Cup which will be held December 20-22 at Seoul. The tournament will see eight of the best Vietnamese players compete. The total prize amount will be around 160,000 USD. A number of events and other events will take place throughout the year in addition to this tournament.
The United States Billiard Association, (USBA), is the official governing organization for carom and billiards. Each year, the National Championship culminates in a series events organized by The USBA. The USA will host the Pan-American Championship with the two best players from the National Championship.
The three tournaments of cushion billiards at Madison 3-Cushion Billiards club were highly competitive and closely contested. The tournament featured two flights with six players each. The tournament was handicapped, so the first five players in each flight advanced to the semi-finals. The top 12 players will each receive $7,400. Bruce Venzke was the tournament director and was sponsored by First Business Bank of Madison. He is a legend in cue games.
UMB (Union of Billiards and Carom Billiards), is the official governing body of 3-cushion pool billiards worldwide, sponsored the tournament. UMB also organizes numerous recurring tournaments each season. On the UMB Turnier Schedule, you will find information about upcoming events.
This tournament was held south of Binh Duong. Eight teams battled each other over three nights. The top two teams advance to the semi-finals, while the third and fourth teams will advance to the quarterfinals. The final round is single elimination. The Las Vegas World Cup 3-cushion Billiobilliards Tournament winner will receive a cash award of $20,000. This is the first time the Vietnamese have sent a representative to the semi-finals.
3-Cushion Billiards Tournament has been a popular game for many years, even though it is relatively new. It was also featured as a short animation in Disney's Mathmagic Country. It was also featured in Seven Billiard Tables, a 2007 Goya Award-winning Spanish movie.
